Victron Solar

(22 products) FAQ

Victron solar gear turns your panels into usable battery power. SmartSolar and BlueSolar MPPT charge controllers get more energy out of each panel than basic PWM controllers, and SmartSolar models connect over Bluetooth to the VictronConnect app. Add MC4 cables and MPPT WireBoxes to finish the install. For boats, RVs, vans and off-grid cabins, shipped across Canada from Nanaimo, BC.

Frequently Asked Questions

Victron Solar Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What do the numbers in a Victron MPPT name mean?

The first number is the maximum PV (panel) voltage the controller accepts and the second is its maximum charge current. A SmartSolar MPPT 100/30 takes up to 100V from the panels and charges at up to 30A.

Q. How do I size an MPPT solar charge controller?

Keep the panels' combined open-circuit voltage below the controller's maximum PV voltage, allowing for cold weather because panel voltage rises in the cold. For current, divide total panel watts by battery voltage. Victron's online MPPT calculator does the maths for you.

Q. What's the difference between SmartSolar and BlueSolar?

SmartSolar controllers have Bluetooth built in, so you can set them up and monitor them from your phone. BlueSolar controllers do the same job but need a VE.Direct Bluetooth Smart dongle or a GX device for app access.

Q. Can a Victron MPPT charge lithium batteries?

Yes. Victron MPPTs have charge profiles for lithium (LiFePO4), AGM, gel and flooded batteries, set up in the VictronConnect app.

Q. What is an MPPT WireBox for?

A WireBox is a cover that fits the bottom of a Victron MPPT controller and encloses the wiring terminals, for a cleaner, safer installation on a wall or bulkhead.

Q. Where can I buy Victron solar charge controllers in Canada?

The Harbour Chandler in Nanaimo, BC carries Victron SmartSolar and BlueSolar MPPT controllers and solar accessories and ships across Canada.
