Fishing for Feeder Springs!

Fishing for Feeder Springs!

Steve Vavrik |

The feeder springs are living up to their name and aggressively feeding on herring, needlefish and anything else they can get. This means lure selections should be geared to match either big herring in the midwater, or needlefish right on the bottom. Most of these springs are in the 9-11lb range but there are some areas consistently producing larger fish. So if you are not catching decent sized fish consider moving, as they do tend to school by size.

The top lures for the Chinook on the bottom have been Koho King Glow Kitchen Sink or Trap Shack Skinny G's paired with  Chartreus Glow Herring Aid and Hit'n Run flashers.

In the mid-water areas larger spoons and plugs are still the ticket. West Coast Tackle No Bananas has taken a bunch of the larger springs in the Porlier Pass area. There defiantly are some good sized fish around Porlier. The best spoon for these larger springs has been Lemon Lime Looney Spoons. These Canadian made spoons have a really good action and have been a consistent producer for the last few winters.

I also saw a photo of a nice halibut caught and released by a salmon troller off Qualicum. While not common there are more and more halibut showing up in Georgia Straight.

Also I'm happy to say comments are now open on this blog! So if have a fishing report pass it on. Or if you like this report and want more let us know in the comment section.

Love the reports, especially the linked images of the products that are working. Making a big shopping list for the year.
