Salmon Season in Full Swing!!

Salmon Season in Full Swing!!

Steve Vavrik |

With July right around the corner we are now in peak salmon season!

In Georgia Straight the Coho fishing has been very hot. The clipped fish continue to be shallower than 40ft, with more wild Coho and Chinook in deeper water. Trolling and jigging has been working for the Coho. The top lures have been Gibbs Skinny G Blue Phantom and Big Eye Spoons 3.0 Georgia Tyee.

Also a reminder that there are some areas open to clipped Chinook with no slot size restrictions near Ladysmith and South to Sampson Narrows. I know of several fishermen that have been successful around Tent Island in the last few days.

The West Coast Chinook fishing has been good with a run of very large fish hitting Tofino and Ucluelet in the last few days. There have been a bunch of Tyees and at least one confirmed fish in the low 40lb range. This is the run that the Nootka guides where talking about last week, so now is your chance to get into some big Chinook on the West Coast. The bait fish are small so the top lure have been West Coast Tackles Super Mini 2.0 spoons in Storm Pattern. There is also a lot of squid so UV Brown Splatter Turd hoochies are working well.

Sockeye reports in Alberni have been great for the last week. As long as we don't get any rain this will continue. Top lures have been the classic bubble gum pink F15 hoochie and the new West Coast Tackles Black-Pink Hooch-e. (available online soon. Email me if you want them) The best flashers have been Blue Gold Mirror and Hot Spot Black Metallic Jelly.

Thanks to Bob Wilde for the report and the sweet photo in this post.

Tips up! 🎣
