The first week of Coho fishing is well underway. It's looking like we should be in for a great season, with lot's of fish in most locations.
I've had good reports from Entrance Island, Five Finger Island, Tent Island and Thrasher Rock. I don't have any reports from the Nanoose or French Creek Fishermen yet. If you fish that area please send me a report to the email below.
The most consistent depth I'm hearing is around 90ft. But of course Coho can be anywhere from 200ft down to (briefly) a couple feet above the surface.
The bait is mostly very small so small spoons and needlefish hoochies are the right size.
Top lure combo has been our custom Chandler Simmer Maverick Skinny G, paired with our custom Maverick Oki Flasher.
The other one I keep hearing is Gibbs Blue Magoo Flasher with a 3.0 Georgia Tyee Big Eye Spoon. It might be good for Chinook too, but this spoons screams "Coho" to me.
Lingcod fishing is still hot with
Fresh Water Report
The Bass fishing has been very hot at most local lakes. As always Quennell Lake is a hot spot for small mouth bass. Soft bait like Z-man TRD in Green Pumpkin in have been working. I'm starting to see some top water lures in use too, now that the water has warmed up. Frog patterns have been good, like Berkley Bullet Poppers. The other hot lure has been a Berkley Clikin' Frittside. It's a proven winner for early summer Bass.
Trout fishermen have been doing well too. Green Power bait seems to be the favored lure lately. But small spinners like Blue Fox Vibrax in Blue Scale Pink Tip will also get the fish.
