Victron for Off-Grid & Cabins

(55 products) FAQ

An off-grid cabin system is built around a MultiPlus-II or Quattro inverter/charger, a lithium NG battery bank protected by a Lynx Smart BMS, and one or more 150V or 250V SmartSolar MPPT controllers for a larger solar array. A generator connects to the inverter/charger's AC input for cloudy stretches. Add a Cerbo GX with GX LTE 4G to check on the cabin from home through the free VRM portal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Victron for Off-Grid & Cabins Frequently Asked Questions

Q. MultiPlus-II or Quattro for an off-grid cabin?

Both are inverter/chargers. The Quattro has two AC inputs, so a generator and a second source can both be connected and switched automatically. For a cabin with one generator, a MultiPlus-II is usually enough.

Q. Can I monitor my cabin remotely?

Yes. A Cerbo GX connected to the internet, for example with GX LTE 4G, sends your system data to the free VRM portal so you can check batteries and solar from anywhere.

Q. Which MPPT do I need for a larger solar array?

Larger arrays usually run panels in series at a higher voltage, so 150V and 250V SmartSolar MPPT controllers are common in cabins. Check your panels' open-circuit voltage in cold weather against the controller's maximum PV voltage.
