The Simrad AP44 is a full-colour autopilot controller with keypad and rotary-dial controls, giving a clear view of autopilot status and quick access to Simrad's autopilot features.
Its display is optically bonded to the protective glass, which eliminates condensation and fogging inside the screen. Transflective LCD technology uses reflected sunlight to brighten the display rather than dim it, giving strong daytime visibility with lower power draw than a standard backlit screen.
Built-in turn patterns assist with fishing, diving or a quick U-turn, and can be customized into spirals, zigzags and other manoeuvres. No Drift Steering holds a straight track over ground against wind and tide, while Depth Contour Tracking maintains a set depth beneath the boat, useful for working ledges and drop-offs.
Installation is DIY-friendly, with automatic tuning and an on-screen commissioning process for dockside setup and sea trial. Pairing with the Simrad Precision-9 compass adds automatic compass calibration.
A compatible autopilot computer, drive unit, heading sensor and other hardware are required to build a complete Simrad autopilot system. No Drift steering also requires an NMEA 2000® connected GPS receiver, and Depth Contour Tracking requires a compatible echosounder module.
