The Davis Instruments’ Deluxe Rigging Knife is specially designed to cut heavy dock lines and ropes. It is a sailing knife with dura-edged blades and is made from stainless steel. It includes a marlin spike, shackle key, and screwdriver.
The Deluxe Rigging Knife has a lanyard loop that makes it easy to secure the knife where you need it. The rigging knife is 6 × 4.5 × 0.5 inches and folds into a compact footprint—only weighing 1.76 ounces. The rigging knife does not have a locking blade, but a spring is built into the tool to keep the blade from folding during use. The marlin spike does lock open, however.
The sailor’s knife is a multi-tool that is essential when it comes to operating any type of watercraft. In fact, many boats choose to lanyard one to every line station so that it is there when you need it.
The rigging knife is an excellent personal knife to have for many other purposes, too. The tool is useful in any job where you need to work with heavy ropes, such as installing the guide wires on a weather station pole. It can also be used for any agricultural work that requires splicing ropes and tying knots.
