Sun Shine and Salmon Time!

Sun Shine and Salmon Time!

The weather has finally improved and fishing has been great. I've had good reports from most location in Georgia Straight. The big White Springs are arriving and cruising their usual path on the salmon highway. They can be found 150-250ft down between the 800 and 1000ft contour line. I normally go east of Five Finger Island a couple kilometers, then point my bow at there Southern tip of Texada and troll in that directions until i get into fish. These are generally the largest salmon we will see until July, so if you want to get into some nice fish this is your chance. Best lures are big glow plugs like West Coast Fishing Tackles Hyper Glow NVP. Troll it with a dummy flasher like Oki Glow Green Herring Aid.

In closer to shore there are still loads of feeder Springs and Coho at Entrance and Tent Island. Remember you can retain marked Chinook at Tent Island. Top lures have been Gibbs G-Force Yes Bananas behind a Green Phantom flasher.

Prawning has been fairly good locally. The standout locations have been Tent Island, and over in the Alberni Canal. One pro-tip to increase your catch is to smash up some of the prawn bait pellets. The scent will travel farther and bring in more prawns.

So get out on the water, have a happy Easter and enjoy the sunshine!

Tips up!
