Summer is Here!

Summer is Here!

Steve Vavrik |

We finally have good fishing weather here on Vancouver Island. So break out your swim suit and get out there and make the most of it.

The Coho and Chinook reports are still great up and down Georgia Strait. The Coho are getting big and it's only a matter of time until somebody gets a ten pounder! The best lure this week have been 3.5" Coyote Nickle Blue Spoons and UV white hoochies. Small Coho special flashers are good choice right now to run with either of these lures.

The Chinook fishing is good, but most guys are focusing on Coho. Also it's still often hard to get you lures past the Coho and down to the Chinook. But the Chinook reports I'm getting are great. Things are look good for when they open up on the 15th.

On the west side of the Island the Chinook are showing up in good numbers in the outer areas. They haven't really moved into the sounds much yet, but that will happen soon. The top lures have been Skinny G Gold Nugget spoons, and Big Eye Spoons Barkley Beast. Pair these with Raspberry/Gold Squiggle or Purple Footloose flashers.

The Sockeye in Alberni have been hit and miss. They seem to be picking up, and are running fairly shallow 40ft has been the hot depth, with West Coast Green Hornet flashers paired with bubblegum (AKA) Barbie pink squirt hoochies.

Tips up!
