It is now lingcod and rockcod season in Georgia Strait! Ling fishing has been very productive the last few seasons throughout the Strait, and this year should be no exception.
We carry everything you need for lingcod, including some hot new trolling lures. Trolling is fast becoming a popular way to target lings. Interestingly the commercial fishermen have trolled for lings for years. You can cover more ground, and hopefully lose less gear to snags. The top lures have been Savage Gear's Golden Ambulance, and their Burbot Tube lures.
When not trolling, my favourite swim bait is Lighthouse Lures Georgia Brown. I use the 6oz when I can, and the 14oz Megabite version when I need more weight.
One of the other hot lures are Copper Pipe Jigs. These lures work on the same principle that the old commercial fisherman's black box used. Basically it puts out an electric charge that simulates the bioelectricity of a living baitfish. This means that even if the lingcod can't see the lure, they will be drawn in from beyond visible range towards it. I have a limited amount of these copper pipe jigs in stock. Not enough to put on the website, so if you want one email me at the address below. Also contact me if you have any questions, or want to organize a larger purchase.
On the west side of the Island, I've been getting great halibut and salmon reports. The halibut have been hitting on classic Berkley White Power Bait. It has a good scent already, but I recommend you liberally apply Pro-Cure Butt Juice scent prior to fishing it. Extra scent makes a big difference.
For the salmon the top lures have been the new West Coast Tackle Loki spoon, and the new Shimmer Series Maverick.
If you get out this weekend email me a report and/or photos. I could not make these reports without the handful of people sending in the photos and info. So thanks to the regulars, it's very appreciated.
