This week has been great for all salmon fishing. One Chandler staff member went out off Nanaimo this morning (June 26th) and limited out on clipped Coho in minutes using a Delta Half Jig, Then he decided to do some catch and release Chinook by trolling big plugs and immediately started getting big Coho up to 7lbs! The plug used was a 6" Tomic Tubby 602. This is a huge plug for Coho but it really worked for larger fish. Best of all the vast majority were clipped. Entrance Island and Five Island are swarming with fish right now. The Chinook are there below the Coho, but it's hard to get gear past the Coho.
Another staff member has caught 3 nice clipped Coho from shore this week using the 40gram Mac Deep. If you don't have a boat head out to Rocky Point or Jack Point and cast Mac Deeps, L'il Nibs or Buzz Bombs and you should get yourself a nice Coho or two. Blue, Chartreus, chrome and Green have been the hot colours.
French Creek and Nanoose fishermen seem to be getting a few more Chinook than Nanaimo area, and they are doing great for Coho too. Same for Campbell River and Comox area. I still need a report from the Saltspring area, so if you are fishing there let me know about it.
Sockeye in Alberni was hot, but then tailed off with the rain on the weekend. I believe there was a commercial opening last Tuesday. But with high pressure systems in the forecast I predict it will be good again for this coming weekend. Remember for Sockeye more flashers is better. Try running a Daisy Chain on in-line flashers. I built a few daisy Chain rigs for sale in the store. Not on website yet, or try the Sointula Flasher. It's great for Sockeye, but works for all salmon.
