Big Chinook Showing and Loads of Coho!

Big Chinook Showing and Loads of Coho!

The nice weather is here and so are the salmon! Large Chinook are showing up all throughout Georgia Straight. I've had great reports from around Denman Hornby area (thanks for the report Chris), Sangster Island, French Creek and Down to Nanaimo.

5-6" Plugs like classic Army Truck and 4" needlefish spoons like Koho Kings Nickle Green  have been working well. Remember to add scent to your salmon lures if fishing artificial gear. Adding scent is the easiest way to increase you catch at very little cost. I use Smelly Jelly in herring scent for Chinook at this time of year.

The Chinook are still mostly traveling south at 200ft down, but we are starting to see some showing up close to structure at 140ft.

The Coho fishing has been great so far, with Thrasher Rock being the hotspot. They are anywhere from 50-150ft down, with 100ft being the best depth. The top lures have been Superman or Blue blazer spoons paired with Blue Dazzler Flasher.

The Coho are big this year, with lots of clipped fish in the 3-5lb range. And being the fastest growing salmon we should be in for another legendary Coho season as these fish get bigger.

With the warm weather the bass fishing has switched into high gear. Stick bait like ZMan The Deal are still working well. But top water lures like the Berkley Choppo or the Money Badger should start out producing as the bass warm up and wake up.

Tips up!
