Frequently Asked Questions
Spinners Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What are fishing spinners used for?
Fishing spinners are designed to attract fish using flash and vibration. As the blade spins through the water, it mimics baitfish and triggers strikes from species like trout, bass, and salmon.
Q. What fish can you catch with spinners?
Spinners are highly effective for trout, salmon, bass, pike, and panfish. They are especially popular in rivers, streams, and lakes where fish are actively feeding.
Q. How do you fish with a spinner?
Spinners are typically cast out and retrieved at a steady speed to keep the blade spinning. Varying your retrieve speed or adding pauses can help trigger more strikes depending on conditions.
Q. What size spinner should I use?
Smaller spinners (1/16–1/8 oz) are ideal for trout and panfish, while larger spinners (1/4 oz and up) work better for bass, salmon, and bigger freshwater species.
Q. What colours work best for fishing spinners?
Silver and gold are classic choices for clear water, while brighter colours like chartreuse, red, and fluorescent patterns work well in stained or low-light conditions.
Q. Are inline spinners good for beginners?
Yes, inline spinners are one of the easiest and most effective lures for beginners. They are simple to use, require minimal setup, and consistently catch fish in a wide range of conditions.
Q. Can you use spinners in rivers and lakes?
Yes, spinners are versatile and work well in both rivers and lakes. They are especially effective in moving water where the current helps activate the blade.
Q. Do spinners work for salmon fishing?
Yes, larger spinners can be effective for salmon, especially in rivers and nearshore environments. Choosing the right size and colour for water conditions is key.
Q. What brands of fishing spinners do you carry?
The Harbour Chandler carries trusted spinner brands like Blue Fox and Danielson, offering proven designs that deliver consistent results for freshwater fishing.
