Most halibut rods in this collection are rated for 30–200lb braid depending on the model. For typical BC halibut fishing, 65–100lb braided line is a popular choice, paired with a heavy fluorocarbon leader to handle abrasion near the bottom.

Absolutely. Most heavy halibut rods double as excellent lingcod rods. Lingcod are aggressive bottom predators that hit hard and fight dirty — a stout rod with a fast or moderate-fast action handles them well, especially when jigging in rocky structure.

S-glass blanks, like those used in Mad Katz rods, are known for their toughness and flex — great for absorbing the shock of big fish and heavy jigs. Graphite blanks offer more sensitivity and lighter weight, which helps detect subtle bites in deep water. Many anglers choose based on the conditions and target species.

Both work, but conventional (baitcasting) rods are more common for halibut fishing because they handle heavier line and give you better control when dropping large jigs or bait to depth. Spinning setups can work well for lighter jigging applications.
